Packing up for the big move contiunes - current thinking is giving up our smaller 1st floor club room for a ground floor container. Much easier for loading.

September 2013

Info added for our 16th Nov Mini show in conjunction with the Sedberg Christmas fair

Barnsley club visited to look at our C_bus controlled foiddle yard and seemed impressed.

Trackwork on Victoria Road being altered to permit loco run round within the goods yard and also additional circuitry which will hopefully solve the flashing diamond crossing problem.

Experimental signal timers recieved from a man caled W_honest in Hong Kong to be tried on Titheridge Junc if sucessfull.

Info started to be added to exhibition page for 2014 show .

Victoria Road has been erected and considering its not been used for a while runs remarkably well. The new MERG Cbus controlled fiddle yard works well too.
A further enhancement is planned also using MERG units to indicate which fiddle yard road is seleced. LEDs have already ben fitted to the panels top accomodate this.
Some alterations to the goods yard are being contempleted to alow locos to run round without fouling the main line. This wil also allow the arcing diamond crossing to be rectified.

Titherage Jnc N is starting to look the part with all track layed.. Signalling is being looked into probably with CR 3 aspect signals. These will probably be contolled by Heathcote or similar modules as worked well with our Adlington layout.

Oxenhope apeared at Telfors on 7th 8th Sept 2001

The webmasters latest O gauge project now complete (I hate painting). Very pleased with give myself 19/20.

The MERG Cbus system for Victoria road finally completed apart from the future proposed route indicator LED's. Problem turned out to be firmware version problems in the PIC chips. Most frustrating but fine now.

August 2013

A busy Bank Holl weekend foir the club with layouts out at Skipton (2) and Harrogate.

Our Grassington layout as well as the associated display courtesy Peter Huff was well received at the Skipton Exhibitiion supported by last mnute entry Aldington on Sea. Chisel  Exch appeared at Mondays Harrogate event.

The Webmaster/ Secretarys latest creation is nearing completion.
Victoria Road MERG CAN_bus controlled fiddle yard nears completion with all modules built and just the 2 panels to complete an wire in.  Problems with some of the MERG CANACE8C input modules which needed the chips reblowing and various other bugs just about resolved. Should be finished at end of month.

Work continues with tracklaying on Titheridge Junction with effort being concentrated on the flying junction and bridge. Grassington and Oxenhope have been tarted up in preperation for the exhibition season.

July 2013

The proposed Sat work day on 13th July has been cancelled.

Conversion of Victoria Road fiddle yard to C_bus electronic Kits has commenced.

Hopefuly reliability will be much improved from the previous probe and stud system with its volt drop problems. The system identical to our Dewsbury layout also incorporates route setting.
Building the 10 modules is occupying a lot of time so lets hope the time and cost is worth it.

Main advantage so far has bee the removal of miles of interconnection point wiring which needed 2 25way connectors and cables.
C_Bus just needs two.

Titheridge junction baseboards complete and track laying commenced. The Woodlands ramp systems is must impressive.
Club website problems with Google searches not always finding us seems resolved after much investigation.

June 2013

To try and gain some space in the clubroom  a large quantity of surplus bits and pieces inc many buildings, track and kits has been cleared from storage and will be offered at knock down prices on a first come first served basis at our Exhibition.

Timber has been procured for a new 14ft N gauge front that will fit on Dewsbury new fiddle yard. This will be named Titheridge Junction after the late Steve Titherage.

New basebaords have been ordered from Elite for our new 28ft "Brook Street" (Ilkley) layout"

March 2013

The Webmaster and another club member attended the Yorkshire Area MERG meting at Harrogate where much interesting C_bus kit was viewed. The next MERG Yorkshire group meeting will be held at our headquarters on 18th May where it is hoped to have a couple  layouts up to play with and a buffet lunch. See http://www.merg.org.uk/

The uses of Servos using MERG kit is being investigated for future layouts. More expensive than Seep/ Peco solenoids but much cheaper than others.
Finding a cheap easy to build servo mount which allows the servo a reasonable travel over the small point blade travel is proving difficult. The Merg one at £20 for 8 is very good but lots of fiddly small parts..

Dewsbury Midland fiddle yard now has working points with route setting using the MERG CBUS system with just 2 control wires. Most impressive the way all the Seep motors for a particular route change in sequence.
Not as daunting as we first thought although building the 6 MERG ACC4 boards took time and we had a couple of shorts on the very fine PCB's. Next time use the correct size bit!!!
At £120 plus build time to operate 28 seep points its more expensive than lots of wires and a couple of CDU's but with built in route setting and a CDU right next to each point the webmaster thinks much superior.

Stop Press - Another prize for our award winning Grassington layout when it was judged best Layout in show at Rainhill March 2nd/ 3rd 2013

February 2013

Work continues on commissioning the MERG Cbus electrics on Dewsbury new fiddle yard. After a false start the system which incorporates route setting from push buttons looks most impressive and may be rolled out to the clubs Vic road and other layouts.
More Cbus bits have been acquired to test the feasibility of using cheaper RC servos for points and signals on any future layouts. as well as making good Vic road sparking diamond crossing and fiddle yard problems.

Glen Bogle was been requested a at short notice and appeared at the Bolton O gauge event on 17th Feb 2013.

The 2012 news moved to the news Archive section.

Glen Bogle O appeared at the Fleetwood Exhibition on 15th 16th Sept.

Grassington OO has been erected in the club room to prepare it for the Leeds Exhibition.

Oxenhope O appeared at the Blackburn Exhibition on 1st and  2nd Sept.

The webmaster has purchased a Dapol signal which has been a big disappointment with regard to the strange complex electrics which are only compatible with a simple push button switch. Every time the button is pressed the signal changes indication. Forget any sort of automation or DCC.
Looking into a replacement PCB from merg which will allow it to be operated with an on-off switch or relay.
Nice signal despite the lack of balance weights and bluish LED. Pity about the odd complex electrics. What a wasted opportunity.
p.s. The signal has now failed and may be returning to Dapol.

August 2012

DCC update
Bachman Royal Scot LMS black (mine to sell) with burnt out Decoder. Added Loksound 3.5 SWD 2/4 cylinder and bass reflex speaker in tender. Sounds good but I am looking into how to make it have the correct 3 cylinder beat.
Bachmann Fairburn (Mine) - added a Howes Loksound 4.o with a 22mm speaker squeezed in the bunker. Sounds  great and hope to add a working headlamp and possibly a firebox LED.
Class 47 Heljan with slipping drive shafts (my sons). Obtained replacement bogies and shafts from Howes (excellent value) and added a Zimo MX655 with bass reflex speaker in the fuel tank from Digitrain at the same time. Sounds great
Class 37 Bachmann faulty SWD sound chip(my sons). I have replaced the faulty South west digital Loksound 3.5 with a Zimo MX645  with Bass reflex speaker in the fuel tanks from Digitrains. With the addition of LED's from Express models it sounds and looks very well. I have altetred the various CV' s so the tail lights work on fubnction 8 so they can be off when hauling stock. Really getting into this DCC thing. Trying to fathom out how to make the fan rotate.
Just need a DCC layout to run them on.
